The images on my notice are unclear.  Can I review the photos?

If the picture of the driver is not clear, will my case still be prosecuted?

It is up to the city prosecutor to determine whether to prosecute any particular case.  Bear in mind that the quality of the original photographs is generally much better than the quality of the photographs in the Notice of Violation.  You are encouraged to view the actual photographs of your violation online or in person with a court clerk before deciding whether to contest your case.

I have reviewed the photographs at the court/online and they are not clear.  What should I do?

If you would like to look at the photographs in the prosecutors' file, you will need to set your case for arraignment (see process for Contesting a Violation).  At the arraignment date, you will have the chance to meet with the prosecutor and look at the photographs in their file.

Is it true that a ticket never gets mailed to you if the picture of the driver is unclear?

Yes, all photographs are reviewed for clarity before a Notice of Violation is mailed.

Who reviews the images and determines if a violation has occurred?

Trained officials review every picture to confirm that the plate is readable, the driver is identifiable, and to ensure that the vehicle is in violation prior to a citation being issued.  A citation is mailed to the vehicle owner only in cases where it is clear the vehicle ran the red light.

Is the picture of my license plates enough to prove it was me, and convict me?

No.  In Boulder, there has to be a picture of your face.  The prosecutor has to convince the judge that you were driving at the time of the violation.
