Municipal Action for Immigrant Integration

The City of Boulder seeks to strengthen immigrant civic engagement in city programs,
advisory boards and commissions.

Immigrant Advisory Committee

Mission:Immigrant Advisory Committee to city manager serves to encourage immigrant involvement in city government and to advise the city of issues relating to the immigrant community. 

Developed in 2006, it is the first of its kind in the city's history and is dedicated to encouraging access by all persons residing in the City of Boulder, regardless of nation of birth or current citizenship status, to the full benefit, opportunities and services provided and administered by the city.  The committee also serves in an advisory capacity to the city manager in developing policy and services that better serve the immigrant community.

Committee Membership:

The Immigrant Advisory Committee (IAC) consists of no more than seven members  appointed by the city manager.  Members are immigrant residents of Boulder, both citizen and non-citizen, who are appointed in accordance with policies of the city manager and are reflective of the demographics of immigrant populations that reside in Boulder. 

Members appointed to the group have a demonstrated knowledge of and interest in the service areas that affect immigrants residing in Boulder including fire, housing and human services, human resources, the library, open space and mountain parks, parking, parks and recreation, planning, police, public works and transportation.  Appointment of immigrants residing in Boulder County who hold some investment in the city of Boulder through work or business are considered only if recruitment efforts do not identify seven city residents.

Accomplishments:

The IAC has provided input on the following programs and services of the city:

• Boulder Public Library services and programs
• Division of Housing/Housing and Human Services affordable housing programs
• Fire Department's master plan
• Parks and Recreation Department's master plan
• Transit Village Area Plan
• Economic Vitality Program
• City Council Community Sustainability efforts
• Human Resources plans to broaden venues for job opening announcments
