Arapahoe Avenue (Folsom to 30th) Multimodal Improvements Project

Project Construction is Complete!

Project upgrades included:

  • multi-use paths on both sides of Arapahoe Avenue from Folsom to 30th streets;
  • transit enhancements, including a westbound bus queue-jump lane at 28th Street and bus stop amenities;
  • bike racks; and
  • landscaping.

and this section of Arapahoe was recently resurfaced through the city's Pavement Maintenance Program.

Project Purpose/Background
The project team reviewed the existing roadway design, traffic volumes and operations, and use of right-of-way space to determine how to best fit the improvements with minimum impact to adjacent landscaping, businesses and properties. The team found that the westbound right-turn lane between 28th and 26th streets, as well as the 300-foot section of  the eastbound departure lane between Folsom and 26th streets, could be eliminated without impacting existing and future operations. This provided the space needed for the improvements.

Project Budget

  • Total = $1,515,000
    • $607,000 from the City of Boulder; and
    • $908,000 from the federal government.
