Cigna, the city’s medical insurance provider, annually recognizes organizations that demonstrate a strong commitment to employee wellness through a workplace well-being program.
The City of Boulder is proud to announce it has achieved the Gold level in Cigna’s 2023 Healthy Workforce Designation. Cigna, the city’s medical insurance provider, annually recognizes organizations that demonstrate a strong commitment to employee wellness through a workplace well-being program. Gold is the highest level that can be achieved.
Cigna reviews and evaluates the employee well-being programs of organizations nationwide and identifies opportunities for improvement. The 2023 evaluation considered the core components of Boulder’s internal Well-Being@Work program, including leadership, culture, program foundations, execution, policies and engagement.
“We are honored to be recognized by Cigna for the Well-Being@Work program,” stated Chief Human Resources Officer David Bell. “This designation reflects not only the city’s commitment to the health of its staff, but also the holistic approach we take in supporting employees’ overall well-being.”
Boulder’s approach to employee well-being focuses on eight core pillars: emotional, physical, occupational, social, spiritual, intellectual, financial and environmental. The 2023 Gold designation recognizes significant accomplishments and enhancements made to the city’s Well-Being@Work program last year in support of these eight pillars, including:
- Expansion of the employee Recreation Pass to all employee groups, including temporary and seasonal staff.
- The launch of Wellable, a new well-being portal where employees can register for programs and activities, access well-being resources, and track progress toward wellness goals.
- Continuation of the Health Improvement Program (HIP).
- Return of the annual Well-Being Fair, which includes benefit open enrollment assistance, vendors, activities, lunch and biometric screenings.
- The launch of a monthly Well-Being in Action newsletter, which promotes programs and webinars and educates employees about other ways to foster well-being.
"We made a lot of progress in the Well-Being@Work program in 2023,” said Bell. “We look forward to continuing to support employee well-being and finding new ways to enhance our programming this year.”
