Definition

The number of times posts generated by the City of Boulder were viewed by users on Facebook and Twitter, respectively, in a given month.

Target

A 20 percent increase in Facebook post views and tweet views as compared to the previous year. Please note: 2015 is the earliest year complete data is available for both social networks.

Significance

The City of Boulder is committed to using new and traditional communication platforms to connect with residents, businesses and visitors. The city uses social media to share important information, encourage public engagement, build a sense of community and answer questions from the public. Although the city utilizes a variety of different social networks , Facebook and Twitter are currently the city’s most active accounts. These platforms are an important tool to engage the community and, most critically, communicate information in the event of an emergency.

Trend

The City of Boulder’s tweets were viewed 7.6 million times in 2016, up from 3.4 million in 2015. The city’s Facebook posts were viewed 4 million times in 2016, up from 1.7 million in 2015. The city surpassed its goal for growth in 2016 and is on pace to do so again in 2017.
