Author, lecturer, Navy Captain and Ph.D., Fred McLaren’s life has been a daring adventure. McLaren was a full research professor at the University of Colorado’s Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Science (CIRES) as well as an associate in the Department of Geography. As a naval officer, he made arctic expeditions in nuclear attack submarines. He is a veteran of more than 20 Cold War submarine operations. During July of 2003 Captain McLaren returned to the wreck of R.M.S. Titanic as a diver and lecturer on “Operation Titanic.”
NOAA senior scientist Susan Solomon has altered the course of atmospheric research through her pioneering role in the international scientific community’s efforts to discover the cause of depleted atmospheric ozone in the Antarctic, known as the ozone “hole.” Her research has also helped institute a global ban on the chemicals that destroy atmospheric ozone and, consequently, threaten human health worldwide.
Dr. Larry Gold is the founder, Chairman of the Board, and CEO of SomaLogic. He also founded NeXagen, Inc., which later became NeXstar Pharmaceuticals, Inc. In 1999, NeXstar merged with Gilead Sciences, Inc. to form a global organization committed to the discovery, development and commercialization of novel products that treat infectious diseases. Since 1970, Dr. Gold has been a professor at the University of Colorado at Boulder (CU). While at the university, he served as the chairman of the Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology Department from 1988 to 1992. During his prestigious career, Dr. Gold has received many citations including the CU Distinguished Lectureship Award, the National Institutes of Health Merit Award.
Harold Flowers, Jr. (“Sonny”) is a member of the Boulder law firm, Hurth, Sisk & Blakemore, L.L.P., since 1997. He practices in the area of litigation, with an emphasis upon personal injury, criminal defense and civil and commercial litigation. He received his B.A. and J.D. degrees from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He has given numerous presentations and published in Trial magazine. He has been in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, and Who’s Who in Black America since 1987, and was selected by his peers as a “Super Lawyer” in Colorado’s 5280 Magazine.
