Heads Up - March 15, 2019

March 15, 2019

Dear City Council Members,

Deconstruction of the former BCH hospital and community outreach update

May 1, the City of Boulder will take full possession of the Boulder Community Health hospital site, the surrounding property, and the remainder of the parking structure, better known as the Alpine-Balsam site. Immediately after taking possession, the city will secure the site. A fence will be erected around the property and the city will begin the decommission and deconstruction of the main hospital building.

On Wednesday, March 20, city staff will hold an informational session regarding the hospital deconstruction at Casey Middle School from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Staff will share how the area will stay safe, what to expect during deconstruction and how public art, particularly on external fencing, will make the area more attractive. In addition to sharing details of the hospital deconstruction, staff will share how neighbors can stay informed during the process, which will take approximately three years to complete.

Planning staff supporting the Alpine-Balsam Area Plan process will also be on hand to answer questions about the project process and ways for community members to engage in the coming months.
