The Licensed Contractors dataset contains all contractors currently licensed by the City of Boulder, including General Contractors for construction projects, Electrical Contractors, Mechanical Contractors, Plumbing Contractors, Right of Way Contractors, Fire Contractors, Tree Contractors, Sign Contractors and Rental Housing Licensed Inspectors. All contractors who are issued a license have provided proof of certifications and insurance as required by City of Boulder Municipal Code to qualify for that type of license. Work completed through a permit in the City of Boulder requires a licensed contractor.
Contractor Licenses are valid for a one-year period. Licensed Contractors are required to carry General Liability Insurance and Workers’ Compensation if they have employees, as well as valid certifications as required by license type. A license in an “issued” status is current with all requirements and will be able to apply for permits and schedule required inspections. A license in “insurance expired” status may still be in their annual license period; however, they will not be able to apply for permits or schedule inspections on existing permits due to expired insurance. Insurance policies often run on a different annual term than a contractor’s license. Once an updated policy is submitted to the city, the contractor’s license will be updated to “issued” status. It is the responsibility of the contractor to maintain the insurance requirements for the City of Boulder.
