Human Relations Commission Funding Proposals

Last updated 02/01/2018

The function of the Human Relations Commission (HRC) is to foster mutual respect and understanding and to promote an atmosphere conducive to amicable relations among all members of the Boulder community. The HRC consists of five members appointed by City Council, each to a five-year term. The HRC provides grants for activities which raise awareness on emerging civil rights issues, facilitate interaction, collaboration and understanding between diverse communities and enable community members to celebrate and share culturally diverse events. All activities are run by local non-profits, are free and open to the public and take place within Boulder city limits. The HRC accepts proposals for funding throughout the year, and reviews and awards proposals monthly. While all proposals are funded through the Human Relations Fund, there are designated fund rounds for celebration-specific events such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Celebration of Immigrant Heritage and Indigenous People’s Day. The data contained herein summarizes each request for funding, includes key dates in the award process and summary information about the event organizer and topic. Historical funding request is more limited, as it does not contain information on key dates. In addition, prior to 2017, the Human Relations Fund (HRF) was comprised of two different funds, the Community Events Fund (CEF) and the Community Impact Fund (CIF). Please refer to the data dictionary for a detailed explanation of each data element. The HRC typically holds its business meetings on the third Monday of each month. Human Services Strategy Survey

Last updated 01/31/2018

The goals and priorities presented in the Human Services Strategy were identified through a community engagement process. Engagement included telephone, online and paper surveys, focus groups, community meetings and curbside conversations. Through the engagement process, more than 2,000 Boulder residents and 70 community organizations participated. The included datasets only include the English phone and online survey results. Due to privacy concerns with the small sample size of the Spanish language phone and online surveys, those datasets are not included.

Parent Engagement Events

Last updated 01/24/2018

This dataset contains summary information about each of the Human Services Department's parent engagement workshops provided by the Family Resource Schools (FRS) program. Data includes workshop name, date, location, attendance and language offered. The FRS program provides opportunities for parent engagement, leadership and education at five Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) elementary schools within the City of Boulder. As parent participation is critical to student academic achievement, FRS offers events on adult literacy, family health and wellness, cultural competency, computer skills and other topics. These workshops help parents or guardians support their student’s academic success and promote family stability. Offerings are based on requests from the school community, evidence-based practices for academic success and family stability and are aligned with BVSD’s strategies for parent involvement and leadership.
