Boulder's Wild Idea
Celebrating 50 Years of a Wild Idea: The nation's first open space sales tax
Fifty years ago, on Nov. 7, 1967, Boulder residents had a wild idea: They passed the nation’s first open space sales tax, paired with a dedicated tax to invest in transportation infrastructure. This historic and innovative measure has helped the City of Boulder to create a 45,000-acre Open Space and Mountain Parks system and to build the city’s multi-modal transportation system. THANK YOU to everyone who helped us celebrate this remarkable community achievement!
