Nature Hikes and Programs

Natural Selections is our ongoing series of educational nature programs on topics including ecology, wildlife, local history, night hikes, field workshops with local artists, star-gazing, children’s programs, plus many more. All programs are free and open to the public. Please do not bring dogs expecpt for special dog-guardian hikes.

Teachers, scout troops and community groups can obtain free individual programs from Open Space and Mountain Parks naturalists, visit the  Request an Environmental Education Program page to learn more.

The Riches of Ditches Bike Tour

@ 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Take an 11-mile bike ride along our irrigation ditches to learn amazing things about Boulder's early settlers, the first farms, and water use in the West.

Fishing Fun for Kids

@ 5 to 7 p.m.

Kids - Learn how to fish! This program is best for children who have never fished or have limited fishing experience. Some equipment and bait will be provided.

Guided Hike - Royal Arch Trail

@ 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Hike with a group to the beautiful iconic sandstone arch above Chautauqua. This is a strenuous 1700 foot climb, but well worth it!

Rhythms of Life: Solstice Drum Circle

@ 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Join an interactive drum and rhythm circle to connect with nature, music, and friends. Many drums and instruments will be provided.

Wild Wildfire Hike

@ 5 to 7 p.m.

Hike to the site of the most recent prescribed fire on Shanahan Ridge with an OSMP Ranger to learn how fire can affect the forest and challenge firefighters.

Bats in the Moonlight

@ 7 to 10 p.m.

Bats! Scary, bloodsuckers that get stuck in people’s hair? Or gentle, helpful, misunderstood animals? Look for bats on a night hike with naturalists.

Vitality of Living Spaces

@ 4 to 6 p.m.

Join Lynne Sullivan OSMP Naturalist and Chi Kung practitioner, for this gentle, slow meander, reconnecting to nature and the cosmos, and deeper mindfulness.
