North TSA Plan - Final Version

Open Space and Mountain Parks (OSMP) has released the final version of the North Trail Study Area Plan. This plan is the result of the department’s and the Open Space Board of Trustees’ work with the community to create a vision for the 7,700 acres of OSMP-managed lands north of Linden Avenue and the Diagonal Highway. At the June 7, 2016 City Council (CC) meeting, council members approved the North TSA Plan and directed staff to minimize the footprint of the North Sky Trail and find an alignment that minimizes natural resource impacts.

OSMP and the Open Space Board of Trustees (OSBT) and community members collaborated for more than a year to collect and compile information about the North TSA, identify issues and interests as well as develop and refine alternative plan scenarios.

Staff developed a draft plan based on the preferred scenario, as determined by the OSBT. The draft plan includes management recommendations for the North TSA designed to improve the quality of visitor experiences and increase the sustainability of trails and trailheads while conserving the area’s natural, cultural and agricultural resources. At the March 9, 2016 OSBT meeting, the board approved changes to the North TSA Draft Plan and recommended that the Boulder City Council approve the North TSA Plan as amended. At the June 7, 2016 council meeting, City Council approved the North TSA Plan and directed staff to minimize the footprint of the North Sky Trail and find an alignment that minimizes natural resource impacts.
