City announces speaker series on technology and innovation; May 4 event to focus on community broadband
New technology is already impacting the ways we live, work and play. It is also at the heart of much of Boulder’s work around issues like resilience, broadband infrastructure, climate, energy and transportation. Recognizing this, the city is kicking off a 2017 speaker series called The Future Is Here: How Technology is Positioning Boulder for Social, Environmental and Economic Success.
The first event will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, at the Boulder Jewish Community Center, 6007 Oleg Ave.
The workshop will focus on the social, environmental and economic opportunities of high-speed, affordable broadband. Participants will hear from a leading expert on the foundational power of broadband and how it is shaping communities, Louis A. Zacharilla, co-founder of the Intelligent Community Forum (www.intelligentcommunity.org). Lou’s presentation will be followed by a session designed to collect community member input about what factors the city should consider as it continues to meet with potential partners.
Planning around the following topics and timeline is in the works:
- June: Energy Security and Independence
- July: The Path to 100 percent Renewable Energy
- August: Brilliant Buildings
- September: Climate Action Means Business
- October: Advanced Mobility
- November: Wrap-up, or so where do we go from here?
More information is available at www.bouldercolorado.gov/innovate. Be sure to RSVP for the May 4 event and sign up for updates on other initiatives that highlight and foster innovation, and for specific dates and times of speaker series events as they become available.
