Share your design ideas for the Main Boulder Public Library renovation at upcoming community meetings

Two community input meetings will be held this month to gather ideas for the renovation of the Main Boulder Public Library, 1001 Arapahoe Ave.

Architecture firm studiotrope Design Collective, selected for the renovation of the main library, will lead the community meetings.  The meetings are scheduled from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 12; and from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23.  Both meetings will be held at the Canyon Theater and Gallery in the main library. Childcare will be available for both public meetings.

Boulder Public Library is receiving $2.45 million of the total $49 million Capital Improvement Bond that was approved by voters in November 2011. The renovation of the main library includes a redesign and remodel of the children’s and teen spaces, as well as enhancing the library’s fiction, music and movies collection area.

Additional improvements that will also be done during this renovation, but are not funded by the Capital Improvement Bond, include replacing outdated electrical and data distribution systems, repairing/replacing of clerestory windows, ADA accessibility improvements, replacement of worn carpeting, and providing for café service.

Construction is anticipated to begin in December 2013, with completion planned for September 2014.  The project budget is $3,166,000, which includes $2,450,000 from the 2011 Capital Improvement Bond, $690,000 from infrastructure funds, and $26,000 for a possible café space.
