Heads Up! - Nov. 9, 2018

Nov. 9, 2018

Dear City Council Members,

Xcel transmission line work in Bear Canyon expected to be completed by Friday, Dec. 14

The City of Boulder’s Open Space and Mountain Parks (OSMP) Department anticipates that Xcel Energy will complete its electric line replacement work on city open space in Bear Canyon on or before Friday, Dec. 14. While Xcel originally anticipated the work to be completed by Wednesday, Oct. 31, several factors have delayed the work – including the weather, the rocky terrain and the time needed to access the project site in Bear Canyon.

If Xcel cannot complete its work by Friday, Dec. 14, the company is not expected to continue work in the Bear Canyon area until August 2019. Xcel’s transmission line replacement work has occurred along the company’s right-of-way on city-owned land, and a temporary license agreement for this project requires Xcel to reclaim and restore areas impacted by its construction. Throughout this project, OSMP has been working with Xcel to minimize the impacts on residents and open space, and city staff is working to help ensure its completion.

For more information about the OSMP Master Plan, please contact Bethany Collins, OSMP’s interim real estate supervisor, at [email protected] or 720-415-1543.
