Water System Maintenance

The City of Boulder regularly repairs and replaces water mains throughout the city. The purpose of this ongoing project is to improve the area's water distribution system, including service reliability and water quality. If you live in or near an area experiencing waterline maintenance your water service may be disrupted for short periods of time. However, a contractor will notify you in advance of the approximate time and duration.  During waterline maintenance traffic will often be rerouted for short distances around the construction area.

In April 2017 a series of waterline replacement work began. The entire project is expected to be completed by Dec. 1, 2017.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can I get in and out of my driveway?

We will let residents know if your driveway access will be blocked or limited in advance by knocking on your door. In most cases your driveway would be blocked for about 30 minutes.

Will I receive a water shut off notification?

Door hangers will be hung the day before any significant water shut down. We will knock on your door if there an emergency water shut downs may occur.

Why does my water look rusty?

After water service has been shut off rusty water can be anticipated once service is restored. It is best to run your water through your outside spigot or sprinkler system until the water clears. Use this water for irrigation purposes.
