Counselor in Training
Our Counselor in Training program is for energetic and motivated 12-15-year-old’s who want to learn and develop leadership skills while working with kids in a camp setting. The CIT program is designed so that CIT’s develop leadership skills through direct supervision, regular meetings with head staff members, and hands on experience engaging and leading campers. The CIT’s will go through a variety of trainings to build skills that will make them effective leaders, improve their self-confidence, and offer a meaningful opportunity to assist children in a camp environment. At the end of the summer we want our CIT’s to feel prepared and confident for future work experiences, and allow them to be effective role models in our camp community!
The program is broken into two 5-week sessions, CIT’s can choose to register for one or both sessions. During a session the CIT’s will spend a week with each other, getting to know one another, how to lead activities, behavior management and more skills they will utilize while out in the field. After their week of hands on training the CIT’s will have the opportunity to shadow a counselor at the camp location they will do their field work at. Once shadowing week is completed the CIT’s will be required to spend at least 3 weeks at the camp of their choice. All CIT’s at the Boulder Reservoir camp MUST be at least 15 years of age.
We encourage all CIT’s to take complete responsibility for this process themselves, by calling with questions regarding the program, completing the application on their own and taking full initiative in this process.
