Financial Aid Program

The City of Boulder Parks and Recreation Department is committed to providing financial assistance to City of Boulder residents of low income by providing a percent subsidy to programs and services for those who qualify. Subsidy for 2020 is supported by grant funding provided by the Health Equity Fund. 
Healthy Equity Fund will end Dec 31, 2020. (Note: if this fund will continue in 2021 it will be posted here in Dec 2020)

How to qualify? 
NEW 2020 Requirements: 19 years and older must complete own application and/or supply proof of residency. 

The program is open to those that (1) live in the city limits of Boulder and (2) are within the income level associated with their family size, see below.  If your child has turned 19 years old they must complete their own application and provide documents.  Exception is 19 years and older with a disability.

Add $5,000 per additional family member.

The department asks that, in order to qualify every year, patrons fill out the Financial Aid Application pdf and bring all required documentation to any recreation center or the Iris Center.

If interested patrons are youth under the age of 17 years and do not qualify by the above standards please reach out to the Play Boulder Foundation regarding the PLAYPass scholarships program.

What programs and services are included?

Entry Fees NEW  2020: daily entrance fees will be paid 100 percent by the Health Equity Funds for approved Financial Aid recipients until your application renewal date.
Kid’s Corner child care punch cards and drop-in fees will be discounted 50 percent for approved Financial Aid recipients.

Courses: a 50 percent discount to use on courses and services (listed online or in program guide with a Course Number), up to a maximum of $400 per qualified person per year (12 months from the Financial Aid approval date) to be used at their discretion. Drop in program fees and 5 punch program entry pass.  You can now use your benefits when registering online

This course discount may not be used for :

  • Courses listed in the program guide without a Course Number (contractual programs and camps**)
  • Private/Semi-Private Lessons or Personal Training
  • Flatirons Golf Course fees and Pro Shop sales
  • Concession or point-of-sale retail items (locks, diapers, etc)
  • Rentals at any locations (rentals are not a course or part of Financial Aid). 
                Other programs or services not listed above

**  Financial Aid may be available directly through contracted camps and programs. Please contact the organization which provides these programs for information on their financial assistance procedures. 

Terms and Exclusions

Financial Aid recipients may be withdrawn from the program and become ineligible for future assistance due to “no showing” and/or excessive absences, and/or moving outside the city limits.
