SEPTEMBER IS POLLINATOR APPRECIATION MONTH!

Pollinators provide essential services and environmental benefits that maintain the health and beauty of our grasslands, forests, meadows, and other natural areas. Pollinators are declining, placing our food security and natural environment in peril. September has been declared Pollinator Appreciation Month to encourage our community to celebrate our pollinators and take action to protect them. Read the declaration here.

Pollinator Appreciation Month Passport Program

Food, Drink and Prizes!

Pick up a passport at a participating business or the Boulder County Farmers Markets, and throughout the month of September, try out six pollinator-themed specials and enter to win great prizes, including a Fall Garden-in-a-Box, a Boulder B-Cycle annual membership, tickets to the Butterfly Pavilion, gift certificates for food and more. Check back as new prizes are added. ​

Connecting the Dots: How to Save the Bees, Heal the Oceans and Combat Climate Change

What do vanishing bees and the death of coral reefs have in common? And how can a few simple actions lead to drastic protections for our planet’s life-giving services? Discover the answers to these questions and more in this candid discussion with the world’s leading experts on bumblebees, ocean conservation and ecosystem protection.

See the Colorado premier of Learning to See: the world of insects and learn how to make your home and our city a haven for pollinators with the new film, Hometown Habitat, Stories of Bringing Nature Home. Expert panels will be on hand to provide more information.

Just for Kids

Fun events for kids and families, including the Bee Boulder Family Festival, a special pollinator-themed concert with Jeff & Paige on Pearl Street for Fall Fest and library story times about pollinators.

 

JLF@Boulder - Pollinator Appreciation Month Topics

Hear Dr. Dave Goulson, top bumblebee expert and author of A Sting in the Tale and a Buzz in the Meadow at the Jaipur Literature Festival at Boulder. Learn all about our pollinator friends with backbones, the bats and hummingbirds, at a JLF@Boulder pre-event, with author and bat expert, Dr. Rick Adams and entomologist and bird expert, Dr. David Leatherman.

Walks and Tours

Join Go Boulder on a walk through a certified Bee Safe neighborhood, take a self-guided tour of honeybee hives with the Tour de Hives and help Open Space and Mountain Parks collect native plant seeds and learn about the bees that pollinated the flowers to produce them.

Drop by the CU Museum of Natural History to see the Becoming Butterflies exhibit now through March, 2017, or attend two special events for Pollinator Appreciation Month. Join the Boulder County Farmers Markets for a discussion about beneficial insects in the farm ecosystem.
