Animal Protection

Boulder Animal Protection is a division of the Boulder Police Department that enforces all city ordinances related to animals and state laws related to domestic animals. The Animal Protection Section is comprised of one supervisor, and five full-time animal protection officers who investigate and respond to vicious or stray animals, nuisance complaints, injured or ill animals, reports of cruelty or neglect, as well as other animal-related issues. Officers promote responsible pet guardianship through education, mediation, and enforcement.

Boulder Animal Protection officers are highly trained and experience professionals. They are state-certified through the Colorado Association of Animal Control Officers.  Additionally, two of the officers are commissioned through the Bureau of Animal Control and certified through the National Association of Animal Control Officers.

Please contact Animal Protection at 303-441-3333 to report a problem or file a complaint.

For non-emergent information or inquiries please call the City of Boulder Animal Protection office at 303-441-1874.
