Blotter - August 29, 2017

At approximately 2:37a.m. multiple officers responded emergent to an apartment in the 1200 block of Yarmouth on what sounded to be a burglary in progress prior to the phone disconnecting. Officers were quickly able to take the suspect into custody. Officers then spoke to the victim (home owner) to ascertain what had taken place. The victim explained that he was asleep in his room with a baby monitor. He awoke too hearing a male’s voice over the other end of the monitor. The other monitor was in a separate bedroom with his four-year-old child. The victim immediately went to his child’s room where he observed a male he had never met before. The victim then verbally escorted the man out of the room to the front door of his residence in hopes of just getting him out. While approaching the front door, the man turned around and punch the victim in the face. At one point, he had to tell his daughter to run to his room, retrieve his phone, and call 9-1-1. Towards the end of the scuffle, the man told the victim that he was going to kill him and rape and kill his child. The man was arrested for first degree burglary, criminal mischief and child abuse arrest. Case# 17-11274
