Boulder Police SWAT respond to South Boulder

At approximately 5:29 a.m., this morning, a Boulder Police officer stopped a vehicle with a stolen license plate in the 2800 block of Moorheard Avenue. After the vehicle stopped, the officer heard a gunshot, took a position of cover and called for backup.

A reverse 9-1-1 was sent to 229 homes within a 5-block radius advising community members to shelter in place.  The shelter in place advisement has been lifted.

Boulder Police SWAT arrived at 5:45 a.m. and located the suspect who was deceased. The investigation is in the early stages. Based on investigative information known at this time, no Boulder Police Officers discharged their firearm.  Boulder Police detectives are investigating and working with the Boulder County Coroner’s Office to determine cause and manner of death.   

The Boulder County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the deceased pending positive identification and notification to the family.
