Deputy Chief - Support and Staff Services
Deputy Chief Curt Johnson is a Boulder native who was promoted to Deputy Chief in July of 2014 where he supervised Operations for four years. In 2018, he moved to Support and Staff Services where he oversees five primary sections: Financial and Facility Services, Property and Evidence, Records and Information Services, Training and Communications (Dispatch). He began his career with the Boulder Police Department in 1993. As a patrol officer, Johnson worked on Watch II and as a DUI enforcement officer in the Traffic Unit.
He was selected to be a detective in 1997 and worked property crimes and in the Major Crimes Unit. He was promoted to sergeant in 2002 and worked in Patrol on Watch III and later as the Professional Standards Sergeant. In 2008, he was promoted to commander where he was in charge of the Traffic Unit and Watches I, II and III. He was also the SWAT Team and Bomb Squad Commander.
Johnson earned a B.A. in Politics and Government from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA and a master’s degree in Public Administration from The American University in Washington.
