Suspect Identified in Robbery at Recreation Center

No Bldr Rec Center robbery suspectBoulder Police have identified a suspect in the robbery of a woman in the parking lot of the North Boulder Recreation Center, 3170 Broadway, that occurred on Nov. 6.

He is identified as Blake Newton, date of birth 5/25/94 with black hair and brown eyes.  He is 6 feet, 4 inches tall and weighs 200 pounds.  He has several visible face and neck tattoos.  A photo is attached.  He was last seen in the area of 40th Street and Sheridan Blvd. in Denver. Currently, his whereabouts are unknown. 

Newton is suspected of multiple crimes in the Denver Metro area and Boulder Police are working with the Denver and Aurora Police Department fugitive units as well as the Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force in an effort to apprehend him.  He is believed to be armed and dangerous and anyone with information on his whereabouts is encouraged to contact Detective Kurt Foster at 303-441-4329 or [email protected]

Police believe Newton brandished a handgun while robbing a woman at the North Boulder Recreation Center parking lot on Nov. 6 at approximately 8:56 p.m.  As he was trying to grab her purse, she fell to the ground with the purse underneath her.  The suspect grabbed her hair, slammed her head on the pavement, took her purse and ran away getting into a vehicle nearby. The victim was treated at the scene for a minor head injury.
