OSMP will begin a trail project to re-route a 1/3-mile section of Bear Canyon Trail starting the week of May 24, and expected to last through November 2021. The trail project will re-route a section of Bear Canyon Trail away from sensitive streamside habitat, improve trail conditions, and reduce trail susceptibility to flood damage.
Bear Canyon Trail will be closed to public access from 6 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, during this timeframe due to rockfall hazard from the trail construction site. Additionally, intermittent Saturday closures along the path are anticipated to occur as Xcel Energy conducts replacement of the powerline towers in Bear Canyon.
The Green Bear and Bear Peak West Ridge trails also will be closed intermittently Monday through Saturday because of ongoing Xcel transmission work near NCAR. View a map of the closure on OSMP’s interactive trails web map at osmptrails.org.
