The City of Boulder invites our community to “What’s Up Boulder,” an event to have fun and chat with staff about current and future plans and projects across the city.

“What’s Up Boulder” will take place on Sunday, Sept. 10 from 1-3:30 p.m. at Foothills Community Park, 800 Cherry Ave., in the pavilions area.

We’ll have free dessert, entertainment, family-friendly activities, chats with City Council members, and opportunities for conversations with city staff.

“We wanted to consolidate some of our engagement efforts about plans and projects that we’re working on across the city,” said Communications and Engagement Director Sarah Huntley. “This fun event helps make that possible, so let’s ‘shape’ our future together!”

Event activities include:

  • Talking with city staff about past, current, and future projects/plans
  • Chat with City Council members
  • See and interact with a fire vehicle, a snow plow, a police vehicle and our new Police K9, Astro
  • Free dessert from Kona Ice and Best One Yet food trucks
  • Free beverages with reusable cups provided by R.cup
  • Music by DJ Musa Starseed
  • Face painting
  • Craft tables from Studio Arts Boulder and artist Betsy Tobin
  • A trackless train to take community members to the site of a future neighborhood park on Violet Avenue

Multi-lingual city staff will be present during the event to help with any interpretation needs.

In conjunction with “What’s Up Boulder,” the city’s Parks and Recreation Department will host activities at the future park on Violet Avenue. The park is located on Violet Avenue between Broadway and 19th Street and is about .5 miles from Foothills Community Park. Community members are invited to help shape the vision for the park and brainstorm ideas for its official name. At the site, community members of all ages can build forts, play in the dirt and listen to one another’s ideas for the park’s future. We’ll have food, music, giveaways, and a chance to say hi to Wilder, Great Outdoors Colorado’s Generation Wild spokes-creature who is part yeti, part goat, and all friend.

Some parking for “What’s Up Boulder” will be available at the Foothills Community Park pavilions with overflow parking available next to the community garden and at Shining Mountain School. Please do not park in the adjacent residential neighborhood. Community members are encouraged to take alternative transportation to the event as bike racks are available.

Visitors to the event at the future park on Violet Avenue can take the trackless train from Foothills Community Park and park neighbors are encouraged to visit on foot or bicycle.
