The exhibition Experiments in Public Art: A Boulder Future presents how an ambitious series of artist-led public art experiments has supported the major update to the Boulder Valley Comprehensive Plan and helped reimagine how a community plans for its future. This art exhibition highlights the creative projects and community voices that helped inform updates to the plan.
The Experiments in Public Art series is an ongoing program inviting artists to test creative ideas in real public spaces, creating temporary civic and socially engaged projects that inspire conversation, connection and activate neighborhoods. Experiments in Public Art: A Boulder Future integrates artists directly into the once-a-decade planning process, inviting them to test creative methods that spark dialogue, illuminate community experiences, and broaden who participates.
Together, these initiatives blend policy, data, imagination and lived experience. By pairing innovative artmaking with technical planning, A Boulder Future expands how Boulder envisions the next 20 years with a deeply human and community-rooted planning process. This is the first time creative practices have been integrated into a Boulder Valley Comprehensive Plan update.
