Individual Landmark Designation Information

Thank you for your interest in nominating your property as an individual landmark. Please read each of the following statements and provide your name, signature, address and date in the Acknowledgement section below.

  1. I understand I am nominating my property at [ADDRESS] to be designated as an individual landmark in the City of Boulder.
  2. I understand that once an application is submitted, the code requires a series of public hearings be held. Once the Landmarks Board votes to make a recommendation, the application cannot be withdrawn.
  3. I understand the designation process is outlined in Title 9, Chapter 11 , B.R.C. 1981 and includes:
  4. A public hearing at a Landmarks Board meeting, in which the board makes a recommendation to Council (held between 60-120 days of a complete application)
    1. If the application is approved by the Landmarks Board, a consent agenda item at City Council, for the 1st Reading of the ordinance.
    2. If the application is approved by the Landmarks Board, a public hearing at City Council, for the 2nd Reading of the ordinance (held within 100 days of the Landmarks Board hearing). Council may approve, modify and approve, or deny the application.
    3. If designated, I understand I am responsible for maintenance of the property necessary in order to prevent significant deterioration of the exterior of the building, per 9-11-20 Property Maintenance Required, B.R.C. 1981.
    4. Local designation does not compel an owner to improve a property; however, the condition of the building cannot deteriorate beyond its condition at the time of designation.
  5. If designated, I understand all exterior changes to individual landmarks and properties within a historic district require review through a Landmark Alteration Certificate (LAC) to ensure the changes are compatible with the district’s historic character.
  6. I understand that if designated, rehabilitation projects may be eligible for Historic Preservation State Tax Credits and that information on this program is available online at History Colorado.
  7. I understand that if designated, projects may qualify for modifications or exemptions in the Building Code, Energy Code, Zoning and Flood Requirements.
  8. I understand that the City of Boulder will provide a bronze plaque commemorating the building if it is designated.
  9. I understand that after the application is submitted, I will be assigned a case manager who I can contact with questions.
