To celebrate the library underpass skatepark’s reopening from being closed, and the city and library’s commitment to keeping the space safe and clean, we invite the community to a special event called “Book it to the Skatepark.” The event will be held in and around the library underpass skatepark from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, June 1.

In February 2022, the city installed a new skate park in the Boulder Library underpass next to Boulder Creek. The space was recently closed for a month to undergo cleaning and maintenance. To celebrate the skatepark’s reopening and the city and library’s commitment to keeping the space safe and clean, we invite the community to a special event called “Book it to the Skatepark.”

The event will be held in and around the library underpass skatepark from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, June 1. The HipPop Gelato ice cream truck will be on-site with free ice cream for the community. The city is also partnering with Satellite Board Shop and Square State Skate who will have raffles and offer free skate lessons.

“We hope our skating community will join us downtown for this event to reopen the skate area,” said Boulder Parks and Recreation Director Ali Rhodes. “We know that great public spaces are possible when they’re well-maintained and positively activated. We hope the skaters will want to come back here again and again.”

City staff will be on hand to engage with the community and get their thoughts on the current state and future possibilities for continued activation of the skatepark to keep it as a safe space for skaters.

Looking ahead, city staff are planning to fix the lighting at the skatepark, and the city and Boulder Library will work to keep the skatepark a safe space for our skating community.
