The Food Tax Rebate aims to expand financial support to help enhance economic stability in our community.

Each year, the City of Boulder provides rebates to help community members with lower incomes pay for food. Boulder has operated the Food Tax Rebate program since 1967 to help lessen the financial burden on lower income community members for city sales tax paid on food items. The program aims to expand financial support to help enhance economic stability in our community.

Rebates will be $104 for individuals and $318 for families. To be eligible, applicants must complete an application and meet financial eligibility guidelines, have resided in Boulder for the entire 2023 calendar year, and be:

  • age 62 or over for the entire 2023 calendar year; or
  • a person with a disability; or
  • a family with children under 18 years of age in the household for the entire 2023 calendar year.

Community members who do not have permanent shelter are eligible for the refund and can meet the residency requirement by providing documentation that they are receiving services from a city-recognized homelessness services agency.

The application period begins March 1, 2024. Application forms must be received or be postmarked by June 30, 2024. Applicants from 2023 will automatically receive an application in the mail.

Applications and more information on the program can be found on the city’s website. To pick up an application in person, make an appointment by calling Milly Malloy, Program Administrator, at 303-441-4261.
