The community is invited to attend the ceremony to tour the facility and learn more about the modular home production process.
The City of Boulder, Boulder Valley School District, and Flatirons Habitat for Humanity are excited to invite the community to the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new affordable housing modular factory, Boulder Mod, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at tackling the region's affordable housing challenges. The ceremony will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 4 p.m. at the factory site, located at 6600 Arapahoe Ave.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will include brief remarks from city, school district and Habitat officials. Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the facility and learn more about the modular home production process.
"We are thrilled to see this project come to life and to witness the impact it will have on our community. Boulder Mod is a testament to what we can achieve when we come together with a common purpose, and I'm grateful to the Boulder Valley School District and Flatirons Habitat for Humanity for the partnership," said Aaron Brockett, Mayor of Boulder. "By investing in affordable housing and our students, we are building a stronger, more resilient future for Boulder."
This state-of-the-art facility represents a unique collaboration between the city, Boulder Valley School District (BVSD), and Flatirons Habitat for Humanity (Habitat). The city provided funding to construct the factory and purchase necessary equipment, BVSD provided the land for the factory and Habitat will manage and staff the facility. Additionally, students of the Career and Technical Education (CTE) program will work alongside Habitat staff and volunteers to get a hands-on learning experience in construction and manufacturing.
"This partnership is exciting because of what it will do for Boulder Valley School District students and for our community, said Nicole Rajpal, Board of Education president. “We know our students crave authentic learning experiences. This project lets them gain valuable skills, through hands-on learning, while making a difference in their local world."
Boulder Mod has the capacity to build up to 50 modular homes each year to help achieve city and regional housing goals; in the first years, the factory is expected to produce 12 to 15 homes per year. The first homes the factory produces will be used to upgrade residences at a mobile home park in North Boulder as part of the Ponderosa Community Stabilization Project.
"Alongside strong partners like the City of Boulder and the Boulder Valley School District, Habitat will be able to make a meaningful impact on the lives of families who desperately need an affordable place to call home." said Dan McColley, Executive Director of Flatirons Habitat for Humanity. "Boulder Mod will be the first modular home factory dedicated to solving the affordable housing crisis. It will serve as a model for how communities can work together to create positive change."
