The webinar session will explore nature-based climate solutions and the Cool Boulder campaign.
Holiday Closures
In observance of the winter holidays, the City of Boulder is adjusting its operations schedules.
The city is hosting the last session of its summer Climate Conversation webinar series on Aug. 22, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The webinar will explore an emerging area of climate work called nature-based climate solutions.
“A growing body of science and first-hand experience show that healthy and resilient landscapes are vital to stabilizing climate — both globally and locally,” said Brett KenCairn, the city’s nature-based climate solutions team lead.
“Our rapidly changing climate requires that we significantly expand our efforts to maintain and enhance the critical ecosystem services our landscapes provide. This includes shade, a greater ability to capture and hold storm water, and more habitat for the many plants, insects and animals that are essential to sustaining these systems.”
Attendees will also learn about the Cool Boulder campaign, an initiative to mobilize community members around the regeneration of local soils, trees and habitats. Leaders from the campaign will discuss ongoing projects and ways to get involved in local climate action.
“We are excited by the enormous interest we’ve already seen in the community. People are joining together to share ideas and empower each other,” said Rella Abernathy, the city’s senior ecologist.
“We hope that everyone will leave this session feeling inspired to help create cooler places for people and safe spaces where pollinators and birds can thrive.”
