The Boulder Police Department has made an arrest in a stabbing that occurred this week.

At approximately 6:22 pm on Saturday, Jan. 15, officers were called to the 2500 block of Arapahoe Avenue for a report of an assault. Officers arrived on scene and found an adult male who had been stabbed. He was taken to a local hospital where he is now in stable condition.

Officers canvassed the area to gather more information and interview witnesses. Thanks to their swift efforts they identified a possible suspect. Within about 24 hours of that identification, Patrol Officer J. Morris spotted the suspect walking yesterday and detained him. He was wearing the same clothes seen in the video and had a knife on his person.

After further investigation, Desmond H. Derrick, 50, was charged with attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault. His bond was set at $100,000. Derrick is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

“I’m incredibly proud of the great policework done by both Patrol and Detectives on this case,” Chief Maris Herold said. “This was a very violent crime and our officers were able to swiftly identify the suspect and get him off the streets.”
