BOULDER, Colo. – The Boulder Police Department has arrested a person of interest on unrelated charges in connection to the stabbing that occurred earlier this week.
Just before 11 a.m. on Monday, July 15, officers responded to a gas station in the 3200 Arapahoe Avenue after a man walked up and said he was stabbed by an unknown male near Scott Carpenter Park a short time earlier. The adult male said he was walking down the bike path when the suspect rode up on a bike and stabbed him. He described the suspect as wearing a tribal type of mask. Officers flooded the area but could not find the suspect at that time.
Later Monday night, an officer spotted a man matching that description near 19th Street and Arapahoe Avenue and with the assistance of a CUPD officer took him into custody.
During the investigation, officers discovered a large knife, nearly 300 fentanyl pills and nearly 3 grams of methamphetamine on his person. The man—Demetrius Alford, 33, of no fixed address—was charged with possession with intent to distribute as a special offender and possession of a deadly weapon. Alford’s possible involvement with the stabbing incident is still under investigation.
The investigation into the stabbing remains ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to contact Detective Byars at ByarsS@bouldercolorado.gov or 303-441-1970 reference case 24-6951.
As in every criminal case, these charges are an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty.
