Woman Charged in Harassment Cases Involving City Councilmember
BOULDER, Colo. – A Boulder woman has been charged with harassment and retaliation against an elected official in connection to incidents involving a City Council member and two other victims.
The Boulder Police Department is sharing some details of this investigation because it involves an elected official but not identifying all of the victims for privacy reasons because they are victims of a crime.
Laura Gonzalez, 38, of Boulder, has been charged with felony retaliation against a judge or elected official as well as misdemeanor harassment in connection to an incident involving Councilman Matt Benjamin and another victim. The incident occurred on Sept. 3 in the 1200 block of Canyon Boulevard when the suspect yelled at Benjamin and the other victim regarding recent votes and then pushed the other victim as they walked away.
Gonzalez is also being charged with misdemeanor harassment in connection to an incident that occurred Aug. 21 in the 1700 block of Broadway where the victim reported she was harassed by the suspect who used a megaphone to yell derogatory comments and taunts at her.
Gonzalez was arrested last night and booked at the Boulder County jail.
As in every criminal case, these charges are an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty.
