About Thomas

Commander Thomas Trujillo is a native of Boulder and has been with the Boulder Police Department for 37 years. He is currently in charge of the Watch 3 shift in Patrol.

He is a member of the Boulder Incident Management Team. He joined the Boulder Police Department in 1986 after working as a reserve deputy at the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office. He was also a paramedic at A-1 Ambulance in Boulder.

Commander Trujillo holds a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice - Executive Leadership from the University of Colorado-Denver and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix.

He was promoted to commander in January of 2014. Previous assignments have included ten years as a detective sergeant, the last five years of which he headed up the Major Crimes Unit. He was a supervisor on the Boulder County Investigative Team and a SWAT Negotiator team leader. Before being promoted to sergeant in 2003, he worked in a variety of positions in patrol and in detectives.
