    • Camp Amico

    A summer day camp for youth and teens ages 10 to 17 with developmental disabilities.

    Campers spend their summer building friendships, trying new activities, and developing independence and social skills. Most importantly, they have fun!

    EXPAND staff have experience in therapeutic recreation and specialized programming. Camp Amico is a supportive and welcoming place where campers can take part at their own level and explore many recreation and leisure activities.

    Each week, campers can be active, creative and social. Activities include:

    • Swimming
    • Group games
    • Arts and crafts
    • Field trips

    Activities help campers practice communication, make friends, make decisions and become more independent. Campers also discover new interests and connect with their peers.

    Each group has up to 8 campers and 3 EXPAND staff.

    We do not provide 1:1 staff support. If a camper needs individual support to take part safely and successfully, a parent, caregiver or other support person may attend camp with them.

    Camp Amico has a peer mentor program for teens without disabilities. Peer mentors take part alongside campers as friends, helpers and positive role models.

    • Benefits for campers: Peer mentors help make camp inclusive. Campers can build connections with other youth from their schools and community.
    • Benefits for peer mentors: Peer mentors gain leadership experience, build relationships and learn about inclusive recreation.

    Camp Amico Plus

    A seven-week summer program for young adults ages 18 to 21 with developmental disabilities.

    Amico Plus is designed for young adults. Participants build friendships, explore personal interests, become more independent and enjoy meaningful recreation with peers.

    All summer, participants take part in recreational, social and community-based activities. These include:

    • Swimming
    • Group games
    • Arts and creative activities
    • Community outings
    • New experiences

    Activities support choice, self-advocacy, social connection and independence. Participants discover what they enjoy and how they want to spend their free time.

    Each group has up to 8 participants and 2 EXPAND staff.

    We do not provide 1:1 staff support. If a participant needs individual support, a parent, caregiver or other support person may attend with them.

    The City of Boulder also offers Kidz Kamp for youth 5 to 12 years old, where EXPAND can provide inclusion support for youth of all abilities. Summer Camps

    Camp Amico Mentor Program: Ages 13 to 17

    This program gives young individuals the opportunity to develop positive leadership skills and have fun throughout the summer. The mentor program is for motivated teens who want to to be a friend and help teens with developmental disabilities.

    Through direct supervision and hands on experience, mentors will learn to engage camp participants to help them be successful. The mentors will attend training that will teach them to be effective leaders, improve their self-confidence, and assist camp participants all while developing new friendships.

    We encourage the mentors to take full responsibility in the application process by completing an application and obtaining an interview.
