The City of Boulder invites community members to participate in a series of Indigenous Peoples Day events to honor Indigenous Peoples, their cultures and their strong and enduring connections to the Boulder area, which have existed since time immemorial. Right Relationship Boulder - “Celebrating Boulder’s Native Peoples”
Oct. 9 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. - Arapaho Storytelling
- William and Wayne C’Hair, Northern Arapaho, will share some of their favorite stories as they talk about the Arapaho storytelling tradition, past and present.
Oct. 9 from 1 to 2 p.m. – Arapaho History
- Teresa His Chase, William and Wayne C’Hair, Northern Arapaho, and Billie Sutton, Southern Arapaho: learn from Arapaho tribal leaders and elders the story of the Arapaho in the Boulder Valley, the homeland they were forced to leave to go to reservations in WY and OK.
Oct. 9 from 3 to 4 p.m. – Indigenous Foods Cooking Class
- Prepare a Homemade Buffalo/Squash Spaghetti dinner with Darrah Perez-Good Voice Elk, Northern Arapaho, and Co-Founder of “Wind River Grow Our Own 307,” with Teresa His Chase offering historical and cultural context.
Luna Cultura, Art, Science and Culture for Thriving Communities, LLC – The Totonacapan-Nahua Fusion
Oct. 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
This project is an artistic and cultural event that brings together contemporary and ancestral expressions of Nahua and Totonaco indigenous art. The event will last three hours where we will have music and dance, theater, poetry, herbalism and traditional medicine, textile art and gastronomic tasting.
With the participation of indigenous artists from the Sierra Norte de Puebla region, in an online event, attendees will be able to enjoy art and culture, weave on a tapestry loom and taste the traditional Mexican Hot Chocolate.
This event will be open and free to the public; the supplies would be distributed for up to 50 participants. But more that this can join the online event to enjoy the artistic expressions even if they didn’t get supplies for the hands – on activity. Visit Luna Cultura's website for more information.

Creative Nations presents traditional/social dances by groups representing the Arapaho Nation (WY), Apache Nation (AZ) and Dine' Nation (AZ/NM) in the Gordon Gamm Theater at The Dairy Arts Center as part of the 2021 Indigenous Arts Market. All performances are free and open to the public.
