Naturehoods

“Naturehoods” are networks of close to-home nature spaces that define how kids and communities experience our city. They consist of the parks, creeks, lakes, open spaces and interstitial pockets of nature that can grow to become the heart of neighborhoods, the soul of communities and the thread that connects us to nature and each other.

Components of naturehoods:

1. Placemaking: Physical construction meant to inspire nature play and increase connections with nature
2. Space Activation: Accessible, outdoor programs held year-round in nearby nature spaces to celebrate community values, inspire learning in and with nature, and foster wellness and resilience
3. Community Leadership and Stewardship: Both paid and volunteer-based opportunities for community and youth leadership in co-designing, installing, maintaining and activating naturehoods.

The Nature Everywhere Boulder team has piloted seven naturehoods throughout the city:

• Wild Woods Nature Discovery Area in the Civic Area
• Gunbarrel Hill
• Sawhill Ponds Discovery Area
• Four Mile Canyon Creek
• Boulder and Whiterock Ditch
• Goose Creek
• Wellman Creek
