Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra, City Partnering on Climate Change-Themed Performance

The City of Boulder and the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra (Boulder Phil) are teaming up to inspire climate action through art. Boulder Phil’s opening night will feature pieces that explore the consequences of unchecked exploitation of our planet. The performance will take place at 7 p.m. on Oct. 8 at the University of Colorado Boulder’s Macky Auditorium. Tickets are available online.

“We should be looking to harness the power of music for the benefits it can offer in facing some of the world’s most urgent problems,” said Boulder Climate Initiatives Director Jonathan Koehn. “The arts are an incredible medium to bring people together and inspire action. We hope that Boulder Phil’s performance will evoke a sense of urgency and hope – emotions that are essential to build a better climate future.”

Members of the city's climate team will be on-hand to share climate action ideas and resources, as well as collect submissions to the city's climate audio collage project. Attendees are invited to share their vision for a more climate-resilient Boulder.

“The climate crisis is more dire than ever, and the stakes could not be higher," said Boulder Phil’s Musical Director Michael Butterman. "The performance will be both bold and pensive, a warning and a meditation, echoing those who speak the imperative and sobering truth about the effects of human excess.”
