BOULDER, Colo. – The Boulder Police Department has arrested a man wanted for several counts of domestic violence after a brief standoff.

Around 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, December 31, Boulder Police officers located a wanted domestic violence suspect in an apartment in the 2800 block of Sundown Lane.

Initial efforts to communicate and safely take the man into custody did not work and the Boulder Police SWAT Team was activated around 11:45 a.m. Boulder Police quickly made contact with, and evacuated, some occupants of the apartment complex. After a short standoff with police, the man eventually surrendered and was placed into custody without incident.

The suspect, identified as James Zachariah Jones, 34, was taken to jail on the below domestic violence related charges:

  • 3rd degree assault 18-3-204(1)(a) a class 1 Misdemeanor
  • False imprisonment 18-3-303 a class 2 Misdemeanor

Additionally, the suspect had an active warrant out of Pitkin County for Failure to Appear on an unrelated 3rd degree assault charge stemming from a separate incident in that jurisdiction.

As in every criminal case, these charges are an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty.
