Boulder Police Investigate Hit and Run Crashes, Truck Driving onto Folsom Field
BOULDER, Colo. – The Boulder Police Department is investigating multiple traffic crashes that culminated with a man driving his pickup truck onto Folsom Field tonight.
At approximately 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12, Boulder Police received a call about several hit and run crashes involving the same pickup truck near Foothills Parkway and Arapahoe Avenue. Witnesses reported that a man driving a blue pickup truck was involved in at least two hit and run crashes as well as striking several trees and signs before driving away. During this incident, the witnesses tried to stop the driver from leaving and one person was almost struck by the pickup truck. The driver continued driving, struck another car and more trees.
Boulder Police attempted to stop the driver, but he eluded officers. Within minutes, the driver was spotted near Colorado and 28th Street and C.U. Boulder Police officers tried to stop him on Stadium Drive. He eluded those officers briefly before ramming a gate to drive onto Folsom Field at the University of Colorado Boulder.
After some negotiation with police, the driver then got out of his truck and surrendered to police.
He has been identified as Karl E. Haglund, 48, of Massachusetts. He is currently being interviewed and will be booked into the Boulder County jail on the below charges:
• Criminal Attempt Vehicular Assault
• Reckless Endangerment
• Vehicular Eluding
• Leaving the scene of a crash after Damage (three counts)
• Failure to obey a traffic control device
• Driving without insurance
• Criminal Mischief $100k-$150k
• Obstruction of a Peace Officer
• Trespassing

As in every criminal case, these charges are an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty.
