The City of Boulder is hosting two workshops as part of its ongoing efforts to become recognized as a UNICEF Child Friendly City. These workshops will play a critical role in determining the top priorities for the Youth Action Plan, a key component of Boulder’s Child Friendly Cities Initiative (CFCI) to create positive change for youth in Boulder. Workshops are open primarily to youth (grades 6-12) with diverse lived experiences with some space for caregivers, parents, and adult representatives from organizations who work with children. Attendance at both workshops is requested but not required.
Workshop Details:
Please sign up to attend by Wednesday, Sept. 25 for the Sept. 30 session.
Each participant will receive a $10 gift card per session, community service hours, and enter to win a door prize giveaway for attending both sessions. Snacks, childcare, and interpretation services will be provided.
The city and Growing Up Boulder have gathered input from nearly 900 children, youth, caregivers, and youth workers. This data, along with government reports on youth well-being, will be reviewed in the workshops to help identify the most pressing needs of Boulder’s young people. The workshops will explore what this data reveals about the state of youth in Boulder and determine which areas to prioritize as the city moves forward with the CFCI process.
“We have such an incredible opportunity here to truly listen to our youth,” said Growing Up Boulder Director Mara Mintzer. "We’re committed to hearing from everyone, especially those whose voices have historically been overlooked, to ensure we create an equitable, healthy environment for all Boulder’s children and youth."
The Child Friendly Cities Initiative is a partnership between the City of Boulder, Growing Up Boulder and UNICEF USA, using a global framework to prioritize the needs of children and youth, and elevate their voices in local decision-making. The city is particularly committed to hearing from young people in marginalized communities.
Funding for these workshops and the development of the Youth Action Plan has been provided by sponsorship from The Colorado Health Foundation. The Foundation supports organizations working to advance health equity and racial justice, aligning with the initiative’s goal to create a more equitable and safer environment for Boulder’s youth.
