The City of Boulder invites community members to attend a Civic Area Phase Two Engagement Event on Monday, July 14, from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. in Central Park (1212 Canyon Blvd).
As part of the City of Boulder’s commitment to community engagement, the public is encouraged to provide in-person, feedback on the latest design for the Civic Area. The proposed design is based on community input provided earlier this year. Community input prioritized core values for the Civic Area: creating accessible gathering areas, offering a wide range of recreational activities and enhancing safety.
Engagement opportunities include interactive stations, questionnaires, maps and family-friendly activities. Attendees can also enjoy free popsicles and a “Meadow Music” concert from local children’s performers, Jeff & Paige.
Next to the event, explore the new Wild Woods Nature Discovery Area. The temporary pop-up, made from local recycled trees, opened last month and includes climbers, sand play, a fairy garden and picnicking areas. "The City of Boulder looks forward to programming our parks to promote connection to nature,” said Senior Landscape Architect, Shihomi Kuriyagawa. “This popup creates a different way to activate outdoor spaces and for our youths, builds confidence and supports both the physical and mental health.”
The Civic Area Project originates from the 2015 Civic Area Plan with the goal to activate the space through cultural events, urban placemaking and connections with the natural area. The project’s boundaries span from 9th Street, Canyon Boulevard, 14th Street, Arapahoe Avenue and along the Arboretum Path connecting Central Park and CU Boulder.
Project posters will be available to view in recreation centers and libraries citywide through August 2025. Project updates and additional feedback opportunities can be found on the Civic Area Project website.
