Community members will have the ability to speak in-person or virtually
Starting on May 17, community members will have the opportunity to attend council meetings in-person or virtually. City council members and key staff will attend meetings in-person in the council chambers.
Community members will have the ability to speak in-person or virtually. The deadlines to register to speak during open comment and public hearings remain the same. In-person speakers will be called first, followed by any virtual attendees. Online participation will continue to be audio only.
Open Comment is an opportunity for 20 individuals to speak for up to two minutes on any topic that is not scheduled for a public hearing (specific topics council will be voting on) that evening. Open comment is scheduled at all regular council meetings, but not special meetings or study sessions. The sign-up form will open at 6 p.m. the Thursday prior to the meeting. Community members wishing to speak during open comment will be required to register in advance online, no later than 2 p.m. the Monday before the meeting.
Council also frequently holds public hearings, often before they vote on a new policy or make a decision on a proposed ordinance or change to city code. Community members may speak to public hearing items when such hearings are scheduled. The sign-up form will open at 6 p.m. the Thursday prior to the meeting. Community members wishing to speak during a public hearing will be required to register online, no later than 4 p.m. the day of the meeting. Please note, if no hearings are scheduled, the form will not be made available. Community members may continue to send a PowerPoint slide presentation to be shown during their Open Comment or Public Hearing remarks. Presentations will be shown in Council Chambers and will not air on Channel 8.
For more information on how to participate in the city council meetings, please visit the city’s website.
