Annual report highlights high-quality drinking water
The City of Boulder is committed to providing safe and high-quality drinking water to the community. Each year, the city releases a water quality report to share important information about Boulder’s drinking water, water sources and regulatory monitoring results. The 2025 report (PDF) is now available online.
Key takeaways include:
The city routinely monitors drinking water and is required to meet federal and state standards for certain water quality parameters. As in past years, the city met these water quality standards in 2024.
The city received three non-health-based violations related to insufficient documentation and a brief power outage in 2024. These violations did not affect water quality, did not pose an increased health risk to customers, and were resolved in 2024. If these situations had been an emergency, the city would have notified community members immediately. More information can be found within the report.
The city has several high-quality sources of drinking water that originate in high mountain areas upstream from most impacts. The city’s Source Water Protection Plan identifies potential contaminant sources and strategies the city implements to protect the water supply.
The city completed an initial Water Service Line Inventory to meet federal regulations. Results are posted on a webpage map and have not identified any lead lines in the city. Community members who live and work in pre-1956 structures are encouraged to verify their pipes are not made of lead if they haven’t already done so and share that information with city staff via an online tool.
