High-level concepts prioritize multimodal subregional safety and connectivity improvements

The City of Boulder requests community feedback on four transportation project concepts by Friday, Oct. 21 to help form proposals for federal funding from the 2024-2027 round of Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) funding. TIP is a federal program managed by metropolitan planning organizations to identify, prioritize and fund transportation projects and is an important source of funding for the city.

Project Concepts

The four potential, high-level concepts prioritize federal TIP funding for safety and connectivity improvements on the city’s Core Arterial Network (CAN), where a majority (67%) of severe and fatal traffic crashes occur in Boulder. Community members can watch short informational videos on each project and provide feedback on the TIP project webpage. Projects include:

  • 30th Street and Arapahoe Avenue Multimodal Intersection Improvements

  • 30th Street Multimodal Improvements (Colorado Avenue to Baseline Road)

  • Folsom Street Multimodal Improvements Pre-Design (Pine Street to Colorado Avenue)

  • West Colorado Avenue Multimodal Improvements (Regent Drive to Folsom Street)

Next Steps

If successful, the city will begin project work, including community engagement and project design, when funds are distributed in 2024. The second round of 2022-2025 funding awarded over $6.4 million to the city for three CAN projects.

TIP funding maximizes our capacity to advance the city’s transportation goals by leveraging limited local dollars,” said Transportation and Mobility Interim Director Natalie Stiffler. “The CAN projects prioritized by this cycle of TIP will help us make significant progress on bus routes, multi-use paths and bikeway connections, providing the community with an improved system for all modes of travel.”

Community input and site data are important to the success of the project proposals and will help inform which projects staff recommends submitting for TIP funds to the Transportation Advisory Board and City Council.
