Name a snowplow for the 2023 to 2024 snow season!

Boulder students are invited to help name 17 city snowplows for winter 2023 to 2024. Winning snowplow name submissions will be featured on city plows and winners will have the opportunity to take a photo with the snowplow they named.

How it works

  • City of Boulder students from pre-K to 12th grade can submit their snowplow names (with a parent or guardian’s permission) at bldr.fyi/snowplow2023 by Oct. 20, 2023.
  • 17 winning snowplow names will be selected by city staff.
  • Winners will be notified via their parent or guardian’s contact information.
  • Winners will be invited to attend the snowplow naming ceremony and photo opportunity that will take place on Nov. 18, 2023.

This year’s snowplow naming contest builds on two successful years of operating the contest. In 2021, the city’s inaugural contest saw more than 200 entries from Boulder elementary-age students, and winning names such as Darth Blader and Super Scooper were selected to be featured on the city’s snowplows.

“This year, we wanted to expand the contest to include more youth from our community. To accommodate this, we plan to name seven additional plows, bringing our named fleet to 17 snowplows,” said City of Boulder Business Services Supervisor Rene Lopez. "This contest is one of my favorite annual events, and our snowplow operators also feel drawn to drive the plow featuring their favorite name. It is a wonderful way to engage with youth in our community."
