Driver Charged in Hit and Run Bike Crash
BOULDER, Colo. – Thanks to swift investigative work by the Boulder Police Traffic Team, a driver who struck a cyclist and left the scene today was identified and cited within hours of the crime.
At approximately 10:53 a.m. on Wednesday, March 26, Boulder Police were called to the intersection of 63rd and Spine in Northeast Boulder for report of a crash involving a cyclist and pickup truck.
The initial information indicates the adult male cyclist was eastbound on Spine approaching 63rd Street and had the green light when a Ford F150 pickup truck traveling northbound on 63rd Street approaching Spine struck the cyclist in the intersection. The cyclist was transported to the hospital with serious bodily injury.
The driver left the scene but thanks to witness information and good investigative work, officers were able to identify him late this afternoon.
The driver, Dustin Kelsey, 46, of Parker, was booked into the jail on the below charges:
- Felony leaving the scene of an accident causing serious bodily injury,
- Misdemeanor careless driving causing injury,
- Misdemeanor careless driving causing serious bodily injury to a vulnerable road user, and
- Misdemeanor running a red light.
