Man Arrested After Multijurisdictional Crime Spree
BOULDER, Colo. – It started with a stolen car and ended with a multijurisdictional crime spree and arrest.
The spree began Feb. 25 when the suspect stole a vehicle near O’Neal Circle and was arrested at 30th and Baseline. A judge gave him a $10,000 bond and he was released four days later after posting $1,000.
A week and a half later on March 9, the same suspect committed a burglary in Longmont and stole another car.
That night, Boulder Police officers spotted the stolen car and attempted to stop it, but the suspect eluded them. On Tuesday March 11, the same suspect burglarized a home on Bluff Street in Boulder and stole a third vehicle after ditching the stolen Longmont car.
Officers spotted the suspect in the new stolen car the morning of Wednesday, March 12, in Boulder and he again refused to stop, driving recklessly and risking the safety of many community members. Boulder Police’s Special Enforcement Unit coordinated with several of our auto theft task force agencies and successfully tracked the suspect as he drove throughout the metro area. During the incident, the suspect was seen driving recklessly, attempting to maneuver around civilian vehicles even when no officers were nearby. With assistance from Colorado State Patrol, officers were able maintain visual contact on the suspect without being in close proximity.
At one point, the suspect pulled into a parking lot near 136th Ave and I-25 in Westminster and attempted to steal yet another vehicle. Officers intervened and prevented the theft. But the suspect then fled the area in the previously stolen car, eluding officers. He was taken into custody in Loveland a short time later after striking several police vehicles. Fortunately, no officers were injured during the operation.
The suspect, Kevin Aguirre, 31, was booked into the jail on the below charges:
• Two counts of Second-Degree Burglary
• Two counts of Second-Degree Motor Vehicle Theft
• First Degree Trespass to a Dwelling
• Theft ($1,000-$2,000)
• Two counts of Vehicular Eluding
• Reckless Driving
• Obstruction
• Criminal Mischief ($5,000-$20,000)
• Criminal Mischief ($2,000-$5,000)
• Failure to Appear warrants for Motor Vehicle Theft
• Failure to Comply warrant
On Thursday, March 13, a judge gave Aguirre a $200,000 bond.
“I’m proud of the work our Special Enforcement Unit officers did investigating and coordinating with our regional policing partners to safely take this repeat criminal into custody despite the multiple ways he threatened the safety of numerous community members across Boulder and the metro area,” Boulder Police Chief Steve Redfearn said.
Anyone with any information about these investigations is asked to contact Officer Grider at GriderJ@bouldercolorado.gov regarding case 25-02238.
